Looking for a trendy new cut for the year? You’ve come to the right place. At Michael Thomas Hair Design, we take pride in our work and do our very best to provide breathtaking results to each and every one of our clients. And we also love helping you decide what your new look is going to be! There are so many popular looks this year that there is sure to be one to suit your taste and style. These are some of the most popular trends of 2023.

The Unique Air Cut

The air cut is by far the most unique trend of the year. It’s a layered cut gaining quick popularity, with all the layers cut very close together. Many of these layers are congregated around the face, creating face-framing layers with hair that otherwise could have been flat and lifeless. On top of that it has feathery, wispy strands to create that “airy” appearance, earning it its name.

This cut is best styled by simply leaving it alone half the time. After a shower, this cut will air dry well and look fluffy and pretty without much effort. But diffusers can also work in getting the look you want. Especially when you add a scrunch to the blow dry, as it will really emphasize that airy look.

Natural Curls

Never be afraid to embrace your natural curls. Long, gorgeous curls are in right now and your lovely curls can be utilized to personalize any one of these beautiful haircuts.

Curtain Bangs

Out of all the popular fringe styles, these bangs are dominating the scene this year. Curtain bangs resemble face-framing curtains, hanging delicately on either side of your face and accentuating your look beautifully.

Undercut Styles

Undercuts are one of the most well-known types of debulking cuts around. Sometimes someone can be blessed with a little too much hair, and taking away the bulk can ease tension on the next. What’s more, undercuts are a great way to give your hair personality. This trendy and edgy look will have people doing double takes.

Trying a Pixie Cut, A Bixie Or A Mixie

There are a few different iterations of the classic pixie cut. And these three are some of the most popular shortcuts in 2023. Pixie cuts as you know are classic short-haired cuts for ladies that provides soft, professional looks and low-maintenance hair anyone can love. So what are the other two? A bixie is a pixie and bob cut hybrid. It is longer and resembles a bob cut while still keeping a classic pixie look to it. A mixie, likewise, is a mix between a mullet and a pixie cut. This means that the pixie cut is made to resemble a mullet by leaving the bottom hair in the back a couple of inches longer than the rest. This edgy, short-cut style is great for a low-maintenance look that gives off a fierce edge.

Bobs Galore!

Having a bob done is pretty much the ultimate look this year. Both low maintenance and stylish, versatile, and comes in many different forms, everyone can love a bob. These cuts are characterized by their short nature, typically coming to about jaw length unless you get a shoulder-length lob instead. One thing is for sure this year, you can not go wrong with a bob.

Nineties Supermodel Blowouts

It is time to start treating yourself like the model you are. This can be achieved through the use of our salon’s Redken and Pureology styling products, hot rollers and hot brush, helping really lock in the volume and bounce your hair needs for this look. And if you want to get even more retro, you can try out one of the voluminous 70’s flips, a hairstyle that gives the hair a lot of body and soft rounded features. Our stylists love sharing hot styling tips with you, be sure and ask them lots of questions.

The Octopus Look

Yes, you read that right. In 2023, this look is quite popular and is looking to grow. This look is characterized by somewhat resembling an octopus in shape. The hair is cut round and soft around the top, while the longer hair gets to trail down and resemble an octopus head and tentacles. The longer hair should be wispy, and slightly textured to get the full effect.

Mullet VS Shullett

Everyone knows what a mullet is. That shorter front hairstyle combined with the long hair in the back is both iconic and memorable. And this year, we are loving it! But what if it could be taken a step further? A shullett is what you get when you combine a mullet with a ’70s shag. This gorgeous style is perfect for any and all hair textures, and even looks great when it’s messy.

Razor cuts

This is one of the most popular textured cuts this year. Unlike other haircuts, this style is typically achieved by using a razor to create particularly textured and wispy strands of hair. You can use this method to get an amazing short shag or to get a special look out of fluffy curls. You could even use the razor-cut method on a mullet!

Butterfly Cut

The butterfly is just one of a few great layered cuts in style this year. Another one of the takes on these great shag haircuts is the all too well-known wolf cut- and both of these can give great texture and body to your hair. The butterfly cut in-particular is able to give your hair the look of a butterfly, as the layers and shag end up resembling a butterfly’s wings. The butterfly cut is to today what the “Rachel” haircut was to the 90’s.
